Finishing off a Fantastic Fall

Wow! What a semester it’s been! The SBESS and our clubs have been more active than ever this fall and we’ve been breaking records left, right and centre!
The SBESS’ has had our most successful semester yet. The BUNCH Speaker Series (Business + Lunch) brought in three excellent speakers to talk to students about leadership and industry. The SBE Mentorship Program continues to see great interest from first year students still looking for mentors and the JDC Central 2010 team was selected and has been training very hard for the competition at Ryerson in January. They also raised over $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity while doing it! On the social side, the Monopoly Challenge, Oktoberfest social and annual Snow Ball formal were all a great success, bringing hundreds of students together to celebrate the spirit of Laurier’s SBE.
The SBE Clubs have been busy too! The Corporate Social Responsibility Board (CSRB) raised over $900 for their Pack a Present campaign for Hospice of Waterloo and the Laurier Marketing Association just ran their very successful Laurier Marketing Conference! The Link brought in a number of companies for a networking event called Steer Your Career and the Laurier Accounting Association had an incredibly successful co-op dinner bringing in a number of firms to meet with students. We’ve also seen a number of new clubs surface this year, including the Laurier Consulting Club and Women in Leadership.
With all of this activity, it’s hard not to get excited about what will happen next semester. From 5 Days for the Homeless and CSRB’s EVO conference, to the ICE Meltdown Party and Grad Formal, there is something for everyone. The SBESS and a number of our clubs will also start hiring for positions during the winter term and even into next year. Keep a close eye on SBESS.ca for updates.
