SBE Year End Awards

The SBE Students’ Society presented the following SBE Awards at the SBE Year End Banquet on Saturday, April 2, 2011. These awards recognized individuals who have dedicated their efforts to enhance student life and improve the SBE Laurier community during the 2010-2011 school year.
The award winners are as follows:

  • Student Volunteer of the Year Award: Robb Fargo
  • Student of the Year Award: Elliott Draga
  • SBE Faculty Member of the Year Award: Trent Tucker

On behalf of SBESS we thank everyone for their nominations and congratulate this years’ winners. Nominations will open up for the 2011-2012 awards at the beginning of March 2012.

Student Volunteer of the Year Award

The SBE Students’ Society Student Volunteer of the Year Award was established to recognize students who have made positive contributions to the campus and the community through leadership, volunteerism and service during the 2010-2011 school year.

The nominees will be considered for this award using the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to service through participation in clubs, activities and services during the 2010-2011 academic year
  • Demonstrates a commitment to community involvement and awareness of local issues through taking part in service-related programs both inside and outside of the university
  • Demonstrates excellence in expanding and enhancing services and volunteer opportunities both on campus and off
  • Understands and demonstrates the connection between service and leadership development.
  • Emphasizes the importance of connecting service to education through reflection
  • Enthusiastic about their role as a committed student volunteer and inspires and motivates others to get involved

Student of the Year Award

The SBE Students’ Society Student of the Year Award was established to recognize students who have made positive contributions to the campus and the student body while still achieving academic success during the 2010-2011 academic year.

The nominees will be considered for this award using the following criteria:

  • Demonstrates a strong record of academic achievement
  • Demonstrates a commitment to service through regular participation in clubs, activities and services during the 2010-2011 academic year
  • Maintains a sense of professionalism in any and all participation on campus
  • Demonstrates leadership in all aspects of life with particular emphasis in extracurricular campus activities
  • Demonstrates integrity and respect in their interactions with fellow students, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the future development of the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University
  • Is an exemplary school representative/ambassador that embodies the values of Wilfrid Laurier University and the School of Business and Economics.
  • Has made a significant, positive impact on student life and the University


SBE Faculty Member of the Year

The SBE Students’ Society SBE Faculty Member of the Year Award was established to recognize a member of the SBE faculty who has demonstrated outstanding support, dedication and guidance to students within the School of Business and Economics during the 2010-2011 academic year.

The nominees will be considered for this award using the following criteria:

  • Goes beyond their responsibilities as a faculty member to engage and encourage students in learning and demonstrates a genuine care and involvement with students
  • Takes specific actions to be involved in student growth and learning including academic, social, and professional development
  • Is available to interact with students outside class, link students to opportunities, and help them build their confidence as learners and contributors to the university and society
